William R. (Bill) Bundrick, Sr.
William R (Bill) Bundrick, Sr. of Cleveland, Texas passed away on February 28,

2019 in Kingwood, Texas at the age of 95.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Ruth “Maxine” Bundrick; parents Signa Harper Bundrick and Dewitt Bundrick; sister Jessie Lou Bundrick Ross; brother Harper Bundrick; daughters-in-law, Donna Atkinson Bundrick and Nancy Walling Bundrick and great granddaughter, Kami Kabernik.

Bill is survived by sons William Bundrick, Jr. of Cleveland, Tx; Samuel Bundrick of Palestine, Tx; Jimmy Bundrick and wife Kay of Colorado Springs, Co. and John Bundrick and wife Jody of Somerset, England; 6 grandchildren; 19 great grand children and 1 great great grand daughter, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and great friends.

Bill was born on December 6, 1923 in Stockdale, Texas the son of a school teacher and farmer and lived his early years in Floresville, Texas during the time of the Great Depression. While attending high school, he met the love of his life, Maxine. Because there were few opportunities at this time as the country was recovering from the depression, Bill enlisted in the United State Navy on June 30, 1942 and was headed off to war. He and Maxine remained close and wrote letters often. In 1943, he wrote a letter to Maxine’s parents asking for her hand in marriage. . In his letters, he spoke of the hardships of war and discouraged Maxine from joining the service after seeing first hand the devastation in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. They were married on March 19, 1944. Bill was awarded the Bronze Star with a special commendation for valor for his heroic achievement and service in a combat zone while stationed on the USS Claxton in the Phillipines.

This honor is very rare and only about 1 in every 40 service members were given this distinction in WW2.
Bill and Maxine would go on to have 4 sons and live all over Texas following the pipeline from Brownsville to Victoria. While in Victoria, Bill discovered his love of music when he played with a trio of musicians, Clarence, Shorty and Grandville Long. The group recorded many home records that we still have today.

Bill went on to become a welder and the family moved to North Shore, a suburb of Houston right down the street from the Rankin cousins until the boys all left home.

Bill and Maxine bought a piece of land on the Trinity River when the boys were teenagers and Bill and the boys built the house that he lived in until his final days. Many wonderful memories were made through the years out at “the country.” The Kindreds and then eventually the Martins would become their neighbors and it wasn’t long before the families became very close. Fishing, hunting across the lake, travel trailer camping trips and many, many weekends spent playing music in the “blue building” was the life they enjoyed. Bill also became interested in wood working and carved shelves, dollhouses, doll cradles and many other things for his grandchildren and great grandchildren after retirement.

In 1999, Maxine became ill and required specialized care. His love for her was never more evident as he didn’t hesitated in taking care of her himself and did so

for the remaining 10 years of her life.

for the remaining 10 years of her life.
Loyal, kind, talented, stern, hard working, a life of 95 years well lived.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 9, 2019 at Pace Stancil Funeral Home in Cleveland, Texas followed by internment at Pace Stancil Cemetery in Cleveland, Texas. Pall bearers included nephews Cecil Rankin and Larry Ross; Great-grandsons Chase Bundrick, Cade Bundrick, Jay Bundrick, Benjamin Nitsche, Wade Farmer and Elijah Hasse. Honorary pall bearers were great grandsons Taylor Bundrick, Alec Farmer, Garrin Bundrick, Micah Hasse and Ryan Bundrick. Grandson David Bundrick officiated the ceremony.

My Dad, William Bundrick Senior Passed away this morning. He lived a wonderful,
fun filled life of 95 years. I was blessed to have him all this time an be able
to help him in the last few days. What a great life he lived. My Da was talented

THE PUSS PUSS BAND – Single & Video Review: “We Should Be”

Puss Puss Band We Should Be

I’m back in Wales (having just featured Welsh band Dying Habit), this time to talk about the lovely new single “We Should Be” and it’s delightful video from The Puss Puss Band.  Based in Cardiff, and consisting of multi-instrumentalists Asa Galeozzie and Lee Pugh, the band is named for Asa’s cat Puss Puss. Both are accomplished musicians who’ve worked with numerous artists and bands in the UK and Welsh music industry over the last ten years as writers & session musicians. They perform every aspect of their music: songwriting, instrumentals, vocals, arranging, engineering, producing and mixing. Asa plays guitar, bass, percussion, piano and melodica, while Lee plays lead guitar, bass and piano, as well as sings lead vocals.

In April 2017, with help from seasoned musician John ‘Rabbit’ Bundrick, the guys released their beautiful debut album Echoes Across the Cruel Sea. I reviewed the album along with an interview with Lee, which you can read here. Over the past six months or so, they’ve been writing and recording songs for a second album, and “We Should Be” is the first single. It’s a wonderful song, delivering the pleasing jazz and folk-infused pop we’ve come to expect from these talented guys. And once again, Mr. Bundrick lends his expertise on the keyboards.

The bittersweet song is about missing someone and wishing they were back in love with you so you could be together. Layers of gently strummed guitar, crisp percussion and delicate synths create a sparkling backdrop for Lee’s smooth, breathy vocals that convey a sad resignation as he sings the poignant lyrics:

Lighted excited waiting in the rain
Two minutes ‘til I see you again
Near misses, longed for kisses
An everlasting wait
The magic word that is her name

We stole our days away
Wishing by the sea
Wrapped up in you
Wrapped up in me

The way you see the world
Is just the same
It’s just the way you feel about me that’s changed

But we should be….
We should be in love
We should be in love…
See you’re all I’m wishing on

Dying, just trying to find
The words to say
The few minutes that I’ll see you today
Near misses, longed for kisses
An everlasting wait
The tragic word that is my name

If the way you see the world
Is just the same?
Maybe there’s no need…
To hurt in vain?

Is it right?
To close up tight?
To feed this cold divide…
Between you and me?
Is it so hard to see?…
That we should be

We should be…
We should be in love…
We should be in love…
You’re all I’m wishing on
We should be….in love

The video is one of the most delightful I’ve seen in a long while. It shows a man in a cat suit (played by Lee) sitting or standing in various locations on a busy street in Cardiff, holding a large flip chart printed with words that are directed at his love interest. By and by, he walks past a busking musician (played by Asa) and throws a few pieces of dry cat food into his guitar case. I love the scenes where he’s chasing pigeons, riding the merry-go-round, and when he sits on the bench, offers some of his food to a man who politely turns him down, then proceeds to eat it out of the bowl. At the end, the busker sees him sitting forlornly on the ground next to the merry-go-round, offers his hand, and they walk off together down the street holding hands. What a sweet story, and I love both the song and video!

Megastar Gongle

The Puss Puss Band

The Puss Puss Band are a two piece mainly studio based outfit from South Wales comprised of multi instrumentalists Asa Galeozzie and Lee Pugh.

Both have worked with numerous artists and bands in the UK and the Welsh music industry over the last ten years as writers & session musicians

The Puss Puss band are so named because their first regular audience consisted of a cat.

a cat

Having been big fans of the Who they got in touch with John (rabbit) Bundrick and asked him to listen to some of their songs. He was so impressed that he worked with them on their album ‘Echoes across the cruel sea’ and collaborates with them on upcoming tracks. Asa and Lee are obviously over the moon about their ‘third’ member:

Now, what Lee and Asa don’t realise is John Bundrick has been a fan of mine for eons:-) I asked him for a little comment about the Puss Puss band and this is what he said:

“My old mate Gongleshanks has been in touch to ask about the Puss Puss band. I was so thrilled to hear from Gongle I had to rack my brains to remember who the PP band are! Then I remembered I worked with them on ‘Echoes across the cruel sea’ which is a great album but……well as you probably know Gongle is a Megastar and we are all incredibly blessed to know him! WOW it was awesome of you to get in touch Gongle:-)”

John Rabbit Bundrick

Here’s a track from the puss puss band featuring MY mate JRB:

So …. Lee …..Do you know anybody famous??😭😭😭 apart from Megastar Gongle of course!

I might …but no one in your league Gongle?

Correct answer! Go to the top of the class young man:-)

Could you change the lyrics in ‘Not just you’ to

‘Everybody wants to be someone else it seems – apart from Gongleshanks who is perfectly happy being the Megastar that he is! ??

Anything is possible? If you’ve got the beans, we’ve got the means?…..

If I’ve got the beans?? Blimey Lee, no wonder I get you mixed up with James Bacon!

Now for another musical interlude:

Is Asa real or is he a figment of your imagination? It just seems that you do all the interviews and talking on Twitter. Is he your imaginary friend?  Maybe ‘Rab’ is also your imaginary friend and you forged that note!

That would make things easier wouldn’t it?…can we ponder that thought?  No.. Asa just has more sense than me and keeps an eye on other things behind the scenes…while I dance like a monkey out front of shop…essentially the same arrangement live too…and yes, as unlikely as it sounds…Rabbit is very real. I’m still not quite sure how we managed to pull that off but he is most certainly our ‘Gem’. We’re incredibly fortunate to have him and to be able to work with a musician of his calibre.

Yes I imagine you felt like the cat that got the cream when the rabbit hopped on board!

Are you planning to write any happy songs any time soon?

You never know?! We only really write from personal experience and try to deliver that as honestly as we can. Echoes Across The Cruel Sea was a very intimate, personal collection of songs and we went to a lot of effort to present them in as intimate and direct a way as possible. Personally I’ve always found writing happy songs to be quite a shallow well and not as challenging or creatively fulfilling. For me, more complex, darker emotions push and stretch me more as a writer and also as a musician and performer…..but you never know?

We’re currently working on the second album and while we don’t want to give away too much…I will say that it will be a slight departure from Echoes Across The Cruel Sea but we’re pretty sure you’ll still know it’s us when you hear it.

Can’t wait Lee!  Shall we ‘paws’ for another song now:

Well, that’s all folks but, if you have time listen to this interview with Lee, it’s very interesting!:If you have time listen to this interview with Lee, it’s very interesting:
At 1. 16 in the interview when the Runner asks Lee how he pronounces his surname I creased up because I honestly thought he was going to say ‘Pugh, Pugh, Barney, McGrew, Cuthbert, Dibble, Grubb’ (Reference to ‘Trumpton’ for all you young kittens out there, GOOGLE it!)

Finally, Thank you Lee for all the fun AND the great music! Visit the links below to find out more about the Puss Puss band and PLEASE support them by buying their CD’s
